An architect and an insider
Fifth Wave is a joint venture built to bridge a specific gap: one partner was looking for a testbed to pilot technologies; the other had the testbed and was looking for a partner to build the venture engine around it — capital, partners, and a path from pilot to scale. Then they met.
Mehrad Yaghmai
Mehrad has architected the systems design behind a growing ecosystem of market-driven climate innovation, spanning venture platforms, investor collectives, and applied foresight research. A decade of building and exiting ventures in Dubai — across e-commerce, EdTech, and advanced manufacturing, in partnership with FDI initiatives and national future-accelerator programmes — shaped his operating edge.
He previously directed a leading climate-investing programme for more than forty corporate and family-office investors, and contributes to foresight research translating systems insights into actionable strategies and tools.
Stylianos Papageorgiou
Stylianos has spent twenty years inside the shipping industry, including eight as technical director of a global ship-owning group, leading a fleet of one hundred ocean-going cargo vessels through hard and easy market cycles alike. He now leads a venture catalyst advancing maritime innovation, working with entrepreneurs to develop, test, and scale technologies aboard operating ships.
He holds an Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation and an MSc and BEng in Marine Technology.
Complementary by construction
One side of the partnership brings venture architecture: thesis development, company building, capital formation, and an integrated support stack from intellectual property to alternative finance. The other brings the maritime industry itself: operating vessels, classification and registry relationships, shipyard and fabricator networks, and the credibility that opens conservative doors. Neither is sufficient alone; together they compress the path from prototype to deployed asset.
